Most people can easily underestimate how much time and energy is needed to be a mom. Today, moms are very busy in the world crammed pack with things to do. Moms are the superheroes that spend endless sleepless nights with sick kids, making lunches, vacuuming, washing dishes, etc.. At the end of the day, the last thing that a worn out mom wants to think about is where to find the energy to clean that last little bit of the house before going to bed.
No matter what type of mom you are – stay-at-home, foster mom, working mom, etc.. You are amazing and we get it, your life is super busy. So this article is for all of the moms that tirelessly take care of the house, the spouse, and the kids. Here are 5 tips for busy moms to help keep the house clean.
#1 Find a place for everything
It is all too easy to create a mess when you have kids in the house you can see how fast a mess arrives. Dirt accumulates from the activities of life, but the mess is created by the stuff we have. Whether it is toys, shoes, books, clothes or anything in the house. Making sure you have a place for everything is a great way to keep it from getting messy. For example:
The front door is one of the best places to keep the shoes, but it still amazes me that shoes just pile up along with the dirt and the next time you look at it, it looks like a shoe bomb went off and now you can’t open the door without tripping over a shoe.
Get a large wicker basket and throw all of the shoes into the basket. This is a great way to get them up and off the floor and avoid tripping over them when you get home.
#2 Clean out the clutter, toss it out!
When you live in one place for any period of time, you will start to accumulate stuff. Yes, lots of stuff. What do we do with all of that stuff, we put it in storage bins and forget about it for a while. A good rule of thumb is once a year, go through all of your stuff and get rid of things that you have not used.
We have a house rule that if you have not used it in 1-2 years then it should go away. Things like stacks of magazines, old toys, newspapers anything that you have that might seem excessive, get rid of it. If you have any doubt that you are going to use something in the next 3 months, then you should get rid of it.
#3 Make a plan, don’t just guess.
Busy moms find moving from one urgent task to another without time to think about all of those tasks that need to be done. The home gets lost dirty dishes, a pile of laundry, dirty floors, counters, floors that need to be washed, etc., don’t panic at this point!
One of the best pieces of advice that I got was to make a plan the night before. By making a plan the night before and knowing what the priorities are for the next day, it made it easier to manage all of the crazy things that come up during the day with the kids. Don’t sweat the big stuff either, there is always going to be things to clean.
#4 It’s okay to ask for help
Sometimes we just want to be the superhero that our kids see us as, but the reality is that moms have one of the hardest and most valuable jobs on the planet. Kids can be extremely challenging at times and the house is the least of your worries when a child needs your attention. So, when you can get to all of the small things on your list during the day and leave the big stuff to the pros. That is why there are residential cleaning companies around, they excel at cleaning up the big stuff and helping you de-stress the home.
Being a mom is one of the great rewards you will have in life and making sure you home is clean and safe is part of raising your children. Here are some take-a-ways for keeping your home clean.
